All Things British

DSC09737_edited-1

I love this poster.  I just really, really do.  I love the look of it, the history of it--an inspiring story of courage and hope…and the beautiful British way of quietly “carrying on”.

So, of course I had to journal it.  A lot of it.  Two pages in my art journal devoted to my love of all things British—focusing on the poster and it’s history, which I found here.

Little bits & pieces of things found online…images, thoughts, sayings…a hand-painted “Union Jack” page & images from British-inspired stamps cover the pages…

Almost grafitti-like in its mish-mashiness, isn’t it?  But I like it this way….

I really AM glad my ancestors chose to come here 300+ years ago…chose to be Americans.  But, I also love those deep, deep roots of mine…

Summer Fun

DSC09685_edited-1

Hello, my friends!

It was my turn to share a few projects over at Vintage Street Market this week, so I thought I’d share them with you here, as well…

Summer is here!  Isn’t that a wonderful thing?!  In thinking up my projects, I thought of all that June brings…no more school, lazy days at the beach, Father’s Day, weddings…so many things!

DSC09696_edited-1

A day at the beach inspired this miniature sand bucket piece.  A sweet little paper doll girl  perched on a vintage-inspired Bingo card…

…a layer of “sand” at the bottom made by scrunching up brown crepe paper and sprinkling it with chunky, clear German glass glitter—and shells & pearls, of course!

Then there’s Father’s Day…

DSC09705_edited-1

This Dapper Dad paper doll was just the thing for this long, tall card—reminiscent of all the over-sized ones I’ve seen before from days gone by…

DSC09708_edited-1

Wouldn’t you just LOVE to have a car like this now?!  I would!  {I think all I’d do all day is drive around in it…maybe it’s a good thing I just have a minivan!}  My Dad did have one very similar to this one…ah, the good old days!

And I just had to add another page to my growing art journal…this one featuring a favorite quote of mine from Audrey Hepburn…perfectly illustrated by this lovely, young 1950s girl…

It’s true, isn’t it?

A pretty little border at the bottom finishes it off—a paper measuring tape, some lace & a few feminine touches, and that’s about it!

Wishing you many wonderful, lazy & inspiring summer days ahead…

Silhouettes of Life…

DSC09673_edited-1

More pages, filling fast…I just can’t stop!

DSC09657_edited-1

Quotes and beautiful images found seem to be my fuel for this first {of many!} art journals…

DSC09658_edited-1

A beautiful Victorian lady’s hand holding a fan…such lovely ephemera to be found--a spot left unglued at the top to hold a special message…

DSC09659_edited-1

Charles Dickens is one who never fails to inspire me…

DSC09662_edited-1

…and a bit of the hand-doodling I’ve always done coming in handy now…Flowers drawn freely around the border of vintage sheet music, then filled-in later with my pearlescent watercolors…perfect?  Absolutely not! {and I wouldn’t have it any other way!}

DSC09667_edited-1

And I’m having SO much fun working on my penmanship again…something I’ve loved to do since I was a child—but in these computer days, the skills with a pen get a little rusty, don’t they?!

Besides quotes and pretty found things, I’m finding spaces on pages to highlight some of my favorite of all things…and this time, Silhouettes

DSC09664_edited-1

Timeless beauty so simply created.  A home hobby started in the 18th century to capture the image of family, friends & sweethearts—long before the ability  to photograph the face of a loved one would arrive on the scene…

DSC09677_edited-1

Two more pages filled…you can see the evidence of other pages before and after that I haven’t shared yet…Soon I’ll have to remove the pages from their spiral ties and find a new, more expandable  binding—they need more space to grow!

DSC09670_edited-1

I sure hope you think about giving art journaling a try…From page to page and doodle to doodle, you just never know what’s going to come out of you next--I really haven’t had this much fun in years!

See you soon with something new…

Julie
