Blues

Ever have a blue, blue day for really no reason whatsoever?  I did one day last week—and apparently this is what it looked like:

 

I went up to my crafty room, sat down, grabbed some paint and this is what happened…it felt really good…I almost turned another color before I was done, it felt so good!

I already knew this, but it reminded me again—what a good thing creativity is for the soul…..

Another page—pages—made that I’ve had on my mind for a while…

I saw this in my head long before I painted it….I’ve loved this quote from Galileo for, oh…I don’t know HOW long!  And I found the perfect image to gaze at the stars in wonder for me…

All the swirling blues, purples & black made me so happy—color upon color upon color—until it felt just right.   Then topping it off with a silvery paint pen was oh, so much fun!

Maybe blue isn’t really so very “blue” after all.

Found

I found them—all  bound together—in an old house in my town.  An estate sale…the entire contents of someone’s life being offered up for sale to complete strangers…and these faces were among the contents…and they spoke to me almost from across the room…

I didn’t know who they were.  I just knew they would come home with me. 

I have many generations-worth of my own family pictures.  Pictures that are known, loved and shared…it broke my heart to see these beautiful faces, that had at one time been known and loved…but were now lost to those who should continue to know and love them.

But I will give them a home—and even if just for a minute here—a bit of a voice.  Sharing them as they were meant to be shared.

I will be careful not to let them get confused with those of my own family—but they will be my friends. 

Perhaps they will appear once in a while in my art journals…in collages…who knows?  But, they won’t disappear. 

One face haunts me more than the others—this beautiful be-speckled woman in so many of the portraits—as a bride and otherwise…lovely…{and she really reminds me of my husband’s sister…}

The photographers’ marks are not to be over-looked…the stamps of the pride they took in their work so very long ago…

 

Faces were lost and now they are found….

Maybe they were meant to come home with me. Maybe I’ll never know why….but they spoke to me that day, and I answered………

Time Flies

Floating on through the first week of October…where does the time go?!

A few more journal pages to share…this is where my heart is right now…giving me so much joy--gluing, painting, doodling—and learning from the lovely thoughts of those much wiser than I am…

 

Have you ever wondered how many sayings of Benjamin Franklin’s we use on a regular basis?  I think I’ll look into that.  One smart gentleman, that Mr. Franklin!

And this one…gives me lots of peace.  As I worked on it, I kept hearing the beautiful Shaker hymn in my head:  “Tis a gift to be simple, tis a gift to be free…”.  

I couldn’t agree more.  Life gets pretty complicated and messy these days, doesn’t it?  Maybe time to slow down a little bit…

And one last HURRAH for summer…I love this faceless little girl—pieced together with lovely collage bits…It was a VERY good summer…
