Pins & Needles

DSC03407_edited-1

Hello, dear friends!

Another beautiful day…school’s almost over…life is good!

Just a few things to share with you today.  I’ve been so in love with vintage sewing notions lately, and have been lucky enough to find some lovely things while out at garage sales, etc…here are a few of my “new” favorites…

DSC03112_edited-1

A Victorian-age sewing basket topped with the most beautiful glass handle, beads & tassels…and what treasures inside…!

…a beautiful old box filled with embroidery floss…

DSC03117_edited-1

…lovely vintage cards covered with snaps, hooks, needles & pins…

…a wonderful wooden spool wrapped with soft, luscious old chenille… and the prettiest prize of all…

…this beautifully shabby, very old & much loved pincushion!

Just look at it’s sweetly crocheted base… beautiful, soft tufts of pink silk for it’s topping, all covered with old, tarnished pins…

This fabulous vintage pincushion is what inspired my project for today…

My very own vintage-style pincushion, made with elements from Vintage Street Market—especially their “Dimestore Vogue” Paper Sheets & Tags kit…

Dimestore Vogue

…one of my favorite things!

A perfectly sized box found at home, wrapped in the pattern-print paper found in the kit…a ruffled layer of the luscious, chocolaty-brown crepe paper, topped with lace & ribbon…

A large, multi-layered felt flower & heart button from Epiphany Crafts, available through Vintage Street Market, are the focal point of the pincushion…glittered up with Platinum Stickles, of course!

The box was filled to over-flowing with stuffing, topped with plain, unbleached muslin, and covered with my prettiest pins…

Gorgeous pearl & crystal bead-topped pins from the lovely ladies at Junkin’ Gypsies

  DSC03411_edited-1

…vintage pins topped with more heart-shapes from the Epiphany button punch and papers from the “Dimestore Vogue” kit…

DSC03417_edited-1

…more vintage pins topped with simple bows made with various colors of Baker’s Twine, also available from Vintage Street Market…

Such a pretty little thing!   So covered with pretty baubles…just like a vintage jewelry box…it just sparkles in the sunlight & and makes me very happy!

What will inspire you today?

See you soon with something new…

Julie

  17. Great job on your pin cushion! My Great Aunts would have LOVED it so. They had several of their own, all hand made which are now part of my little treasures! I love the J and P spool thread label you got! You're going to have so much fun with all those vintage sewing notions! Have a great day Julie!

  18. BIG Blogger problems
    this week, so happy
    that this post is still
up! I left a long comment
    earlier in the week but
    it wouldn't "take." This
    post brought back such
    memories of cradling my
    mom's "tomato" pin cushion
    with the attached "strawberry"
    that she used for safety
    pins : ) I'd love to see
    more cute pin cushions in
    the big craft stores; mostly
    it's all utilitarian. Hope
    your week has gone well....
    Imagine you are getting close
to school's end, as we are!
    xx Suzanne
