Ever Just Have One of Those Days...?

How is everyone today? Hope the day is going well! It's COLD here in California--central California, anyway! This morning, while taking my daughter to school, the car thermometer showed 31 degrees--WOW! That's really something for here!

It was so frosty, that it actually looked like a light dusting of snow on all the roofs and lawns...never seen such a uniform covering of frost--we just decided to say that it snowed--it looked like it!

So I had to take a photo or two of this very ironic scene...

Big, fat, luscious roses covered with ice! It's hard to see the ice crystals on the roses, but you can see it one the ground around them...

Most of the ground was much whiter than this--these were just some of my fattest roses, so I had to show them off, as I'm sure they're my last this year!

This looks like dew drops, but it was frozen! Hard to capture it just right...oh, well!

So, like the title of today's post says...it was just one of those days today! I've got lots on my plate this week, (don't we all?!) and was trying to juggle that plate with way too many things balanced on top of it--and it all just kind of fell around my feet today! Nothing horrible...just trying to finish decorating the house, getting things ready for a weekend Christmas party, cleaning, and a few projects...these things shouldn't be attempted all at once--don't try it!

I'm actually not complaining--just laughing at myself today! I had to sit down and make something just for fun, and this is what it turned into...

Just about says it all, doesn't it?!

This is from Crafty Secrets' "Domestic Goddess" Creative Scraps...was still sitting on my table from yesterday, so I thought I'd use it again! (Note to self...gotta clean table, too!) Love this chartreuse metallic rick-rack trim...definitely useful for a bright, retro-style card! Love that bright pink gingham ribbon, too!

So, come on over for lunch, okay? I'll clean off my table and get cookin'!

That's all for tonight...just wanted to check in and see if everyone else on the planet was sane today except for me! I'll be back tomorrow...calm, cool and collected with something pretty!

Just to close off, found a couple of my favorite photos of all time this week--these are of my beautiful oldest daughter, Chelsea, far away at college...I felt these truly expressed my feelings about this day...

This was at my husband's sister's wedding...need I say more? It was time for her special picture with the bride and groom, and this is all we could get out of her!

This little baby of mine will be turning 20 years old this month...my, how time flies!

Have a wonderful evening!

  1. I had one of those days too! It was cloudy and cold and very rainy here today and my son and I got caught out in it without an umbrella! A bunch of little things like that happened all day today. Let's start over tomorrow!

  2. We are headed for a foot of snow as I type this, but I am with you...there is something a bit sad when seeing a fully in-bloom rose with ice holding it all together.

Aren't you glad to know that we all have days like this TOGETHER which means the days we really want to celebrate will be celebrated together as well!

By the way, BEAUTIFUL creations, as always my friend....

  3. I've had a few of those days lately. Felt like I was spinning my wheels three days ago. Yesterday, my day started with a glass breaking during the mayhem of morning madness; and ended with a ghost from the past who is better left there; and this morning, just as we were leaving for school, my oldest son knocked over a potted plant. Dirt everywhere, but no time to clean it up -- so will be repotting and vacuuming as soon as I get home. I figure when the day starts like that, it can only get better. HA! The frost does look lovely. We are still waiting for our 30 degree temps around here as they say they aer a'coming. Your card is great! And the photos of your daughter precious memories! Hoping today is a brighter day! Blessings :) Tammy

  8. Oh my, I have a suspicion that this winter is going to be a rough one for all of us! Looking at the map on the news this morning, snow storms and such, seems it has been awhile since the bad weather started this early - for some years around here, snow hasn't started until January. Oh well, more family snuggling time! Julie, your art work is just fabulous! And the little one's face is precious.

Your roses WERE beautiful .. you noticed I said "WERE" ... because once they thaw, they'll turn brown & dye ... so sad!!
How cute is your daughter ... is this the REDHEAD! I can see she's always had a bit of "spunk"! And YES, they grow up WAY TOO FAST ... mine turned 40 this year ... CAN NOT BELIEVE IT!!!! Dang I'm gettin old ... nah, second thought she is ... not me!! Happy Day my friend!!

  15. Stay warm! It's -10 here in Colorado this morning. The snow crunches because it's too cold. The dog goes out and comes right back in. Your rose pictures remind me of our trip to Disney World 20 years ago - we went over Christmas break. It was 32 in Florida too but they forgot to turn off all the sprinklers. So the oranges were covered in ice. Surreal! If you're not use to it - I think it's harder than those of us that live in cold climates. We have the right clothes! :D

  18. Your Chelsea was adorable as a child, and I'm sure a pretty young lady today. Hang in there regarding your day. It can only get better. Sometimes, you either have to embrace the chaos or just shut down. I'm going through the same thing right now. Trying to laugh at it all. Such a funny card you made...love it!

  22. Hello! Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog! Your blog is lovely! Those cookies you look so delicious! So you are in central CA? I am from there, also! My family still lives there and I miss them dearly. They were telling how cold it has been there. Hope your (and my mom's) beautiful roses survive the crazy weather!
