A Little French…and Girls in Sweet Dresses…

Good afternoon, my friends!

What a gloomy day we’re having here…where has the sun gone?!  Oh, well…the roses look beautiful in this light, so it’s alright!

Just a few things to share with you today…I’ve been busy having fun with my daughter who finished school last week…one more day for daughter number 3, and then summer’s in full-swing!

First, a little card…

Isn’t she sweet?!  The image and sentiment are from a new stamp set from Crafty Secrets called Bonjour Merci…so many fun French sayings and sentiments & images, including  this adorable little girl, of course!

BonjourMerci

Just used my watercolor pencils for coloring…a little bit of Dazzling Diamonds on the flowers and butterfly, Platinum Stickles all around, lace, ribbon, buttons, and we’re all done!

This image reminded me of a few pictures I have of little girls in pretty dresses which I thought I’d share…

Smith (75)

Me, about 1966…in a cute little dress my grandparents brought me from their trip to Germany…

Karen with ball

My mother, Karen…about 1942…

Shirley with kitten

My mother-in-law, Shirley—very excitedly holding a little kitten—about 1934…

Velda about age 2

My grandmother, Velda…about 1917…

Sarah Mariah Follett, 4 yrs. old, about 1870

My husband’s 2nd great-grandmother, Sarah Mariah Follett when she was 4 years old, about 1870…

-Lois Pratt Hunt-gr. grandmother of Ida Smith Church_edited

My 3rd great-grandmother, Lois Pratt Hunt, in the 1840’s…

Hope you enjoyed this small window into little girls and their dresses through the last 160 years…!

One more thing to leave you with…a sweet little birthday card given to my mother by a friend when she was a young girl…

  21. Hi Julie

The sun has deserted us here in the Uk as well, it's really been quite cold the last few days and shows no signs of impovement.

I had been making similar comparisones with some of my new Penny Black stamps and how they remind me of old family photos.

  22. I so love the combination of blue, cream, and black - your card is delightful!! Love the French phrases set, too, what a great idea. It was so fun to look at all the lovely little dress-clad girlies in your family throughout the years - they would make such an adorable little mini-album (along with some dressy pics of your own girls too!). Have a wonderful day!

  24. Julie, It is time for the "Yes, We have no more Baggies" song! I always sang this on the last day of school knowing there would be no more school lunches to pack for the next two months! Today's card is such a treat to go along with the wonderful little girl photos. I too had a little German dress that I wore from the age of six until 14! It got VERY short, but darn I loved that dress! Enjoy your summer start! Elizabeth
