It was just sitting in the case…waiting for me.
I was initially enthralled by the scrapbook cover. The colors, the lettering, the little animal silhouettes—everything conspired—on the outside alone—to make a goner out of me.
And then I opened it’s fragile cover, only to find…
…this. And this…
What’s a girl to do?!?
Page after page of delights awaited me…
…and then I asked the price. Not a goldmine asked, but much more than I felt I should pay…
…since I don’t have a queenly sum at my disposal whenever I wish, I tried to walk away from my new-found treasure…
…but I found I couldn’t cross the old antique shop’s threshold without it.
My mother, who was with me, isn’t always the most persuasive when something needs to be walked away from--and so it was mine.
…and I couldn’t have been more thrilled! I’ve not been sorry one single day since.
I’ve more pages to share with you very soon—pages filled with sweet little Valentines from the 1930s, and given, it seems, to a much-loved teacher by her students…
Those dear children’s offerings, and the teacher that saved them so sweetly, have inspired a project that I’ll share with you soon…
Sending lots of vintage love your way…
Julie

Some years ago I found my Aunt Jane's scrapbook when we cleaned out Grandma Zetta's house to sell. It was filled with Valentines and postcards, pictures of puppies...all kinds of the things a little girl loves. I tried to return it to her, but she told me I could have it...like Grandma Zetta she is more practical than sentimental. I have received years of pleasure from that gift. I envy you finding that wonderful scrapbook...only because I know how much joy it will bring.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Julie! What a find.... I'm drooling over your Valentine filled book. I couldn't have walked away from it either.
