Diamond Jubilee

Diamond Jubilee 2012

Earlier this year, I found this at my parents’ house among my grandparents’ things…just one more piece of her life that she kept so very carefully…

Dow & Velda 1

Great lovers of travel, they visited all around the world.  A favorite stop: Jolly Old England.

They just happened to  be there during Queen Elizabeth’s coronation year—1953, and brought home this beautiful souvenir magazine to remember it by…

…and I thought I’d share just a little of it with you here before the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration year was completely past…

I’ve always loved England, it being such a large part of my family heritage—and I’ve loved all the beautiful Diamond Jubilee coverage and art that’s come of it, so this magazine was just the icing on the cake for me!

Filled with beautiful photographs of Elizabeth on her very special day…

Gloriously stylish ads:

Little glimpses into the royal family—one of my particular favorites:

…such a sweet moment caught—the Queen Mother answering questions from her little grandson…Prince Charles.

Can you imagine being photographed by so many for so long on such an occasion?  I can imagine it’s exhausting!  But with Elizabeth did it with such queenly grace…

…as she’s continued to do for the last 60 years…

Queen Elizabeth

There were too many wonderful pictures from the magazine I wanted to share to put in this one post, so I’ll have more to show you in my next…

Wishing you a jubilatiously wonderful day…

{Diamond Jubilee banner at top of post and photo of Queen Elizabeth in her later years found on Pinterest.  All other photos taken by me from Coronation Souvenir magazine of 1953.}

  1. So interesting Julie!... The Queen is still such a beautiful, graceful lady!... I am English on my mama's side of our family and treasure my heritage as well... you are so blessed to have that wonderful keepsake!... two of my nieces just moved back from London this year... they were able to see all of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebration... so much tradition and pageantry, I love it!... wishing you a beautiful day, xoxo Julie Marie

  2. What a treasure! It's easier to find "Royal bits" here in Canada ... reminds me of the fascination with the Kennedys when I was a child in the US. I remember being fascinated with Charles being made the Prince of Wales..hardly understood it but watched for hours! Tks for sharing!

  3. These are wonderful pictures! Thanks for sharing them and very much looking forward to your next installment.

  4. What wonderful keepsakes. I remember watching the wedding of Charles and Lady Diane. She always amazed me.
