Generations

DSC04402_edited-1

I wanted to capture a picture of our hands together for a very long time…

DSC04395_edited-1

Finally got to do that one beautiful summer’s day last year.  Three generations of women together.  Grandmother, mother, daughter…

DSC04390_edited-1

…all first-born daughters.  I think that’s pretty wonderful.

I love the contrast of these hands I know so very well—from the smoothness of my daughter’s beautiful hand, to the older—even more beautiful hand of my mother.  There is beauty at each and every stage to me.

Even though I’m not especially excited about the age-spots, wrinkles & more-prominent veins in my hands, I love what they represent:  Age. Experience.  Love…Time.

The capturing of time—even just a little bit of it—brings me great joy…

…always has, always will.

I guess that’s why I do what I do.

Heart and Mind

DSC04364_edited-1

The mind is a beautiful thing…

DSC04354_edited-1

It can be full of music or full of dreams…

DSC04383_edited-1

…and dreams can lead to bigger things.  Things our heart sings--joins in with our mind and reaches for and aspires to.

DSC04385_edited-1

Sometimes our mind and heart must do harder things.

DSC04368_edited-1

Being brave is a funny thing.  We may think we are, or we may think we’re not so very…

 DSC04372_edited-1

But, when we’re put to the test—when our backs are against the wall, when we need to stand up for something—

DSC04368_edited-1

--especially when we need to protect someone we love--that’s when we really find out what we’re made of.  Our inner strength.

DSC04377_edited-1

We all have it.  We just have to open ourselves up—heart and mind—and find it within.

DSC04379_edited-1

And then, I think, we all can be very, very brave.

How big is your brave?

Julie

{For you, my sister.  You can do this.}

Haunted

[DSC03094_edited-1%255B4%255D.jpg]

My home houses many things belonging to the past…

DSC04323_edited-1

…things that belonged to the people that lived and died long before my birth--

John and Lois Barnes Pratt Hunt with daughter Ida

Things they loved~

Things they touched~

Words they wrote…

Pictures they took--shadows of the lives they led…

As I walk through the hallways and rooms of my house, they flit in and out of my mind.

Images.  Names and quiet voices…

Haunted?  No, not really…Not in the Halloween-kind of way.

Ida Francis Hunt and daughter Pauline

But, I do believe that when we turn our minds & hearts to those we love that we can no longer see,

…that their thoughts & hearts are turned to us.

Haunted?  No, not really…

Just a home & a heart filled with beautiful memories and lots and lots of love…

Wishing you a home full of sweet memories…

{For you, Mom.  Happy Birthday!}

{All images are mine--taken in my home.  The photos of all those beautiful people are my people.  I love them all.}
